Parole Pass
Part of the agreement to end the war ensured that the confederate soldiers could return home without conflict. The pass gave them travel, lodging, and food to support the trip. They printed 30,000 in just a few days.
We have a few in case we need them too.
Appomattox Court House
The McLean house. This is where Lee surrendered to Grant and they ended the civil war.
A nice historic site! We learned a lot about the end of the war. Many things they never taught in school. Appomattox Court House is the name of the town, not a building. In fact, there isn’t really even a court house here!
We ran into a union soldier at the tavern.
We heard his story about the war and how he stayed in the south as a lawmaker.
