Another off the beaten track national historic site. It was a trading post started by William Bent and his brothers as a stop along the Santa Fe Trail and headquarters for their fur trading business. We were pleasantly surprised by the site. The fort is rebuilt and furnished to look the way it did in the 1840's. It was interesting and fun to explore life on the plains during the settling of the west. It was a great way to start the adventure!

This site held particular significance for Ali. She studied Owl Woman, William Bent’s Native American wife for her 4th grade Colorado history project. She made a short biographical movie about Owl Woman. It was a fun project and great to see the actual site!

Check out Ali's video. This is a collection of all the 4th grade projects. Ali's begins at 7:45. She makes a great Owl Woman!
