A wonderful museum and memorial at the site of the first motorized human flight. Orville and Wilbur Wright were amazing engineers with unparalleled perseverance.
The hangar where they assembled the aircraft. It was all sand back then. Kill Devil Hill (a sand dune) was on one end. The beach was right next to them. Now the field is surrounded by trees and the beach is a 1/4 mile away.
There was a marker for each of the 4 successful flights. This is the first one. They flew for 12 seconds. Sam ran the distance in 10.
This is the flight path.
The memorial at the top of the sand dune. It is built to resemble an air foil.
Replica of the plane. There were also several actual parts on display.

We really enjoyed the site- it's amazing to think that less than 70 years later a man walked on the moon! Flight has come a long way in a short time!
